The hustle and bustle of the holiday season can take its toll. So why not treat yourself to an early gift of serenity? Step away from the shopping malls and traffic tie-ups, put down the decorations, and do something to soothe the soul. Try one of these on for size:
Take a hike! Not figuratively, but literally! Walking is a great stress buster and helps slow down the pace of life.
Spend the afternoon cozied up next to a roaring fire.
Take some time to smell, and drink, the coffee. Or tea. Or any beverage that helps you relax (but go easy on the egg nog!).
Read a good book or magazine cover to cover over the course of a few hours.
Meet a friend for lunch or dinner — with no time constraints.
Bundle up and go star gazing.
Gather up the family and drive around the neighborhood oohing and ahhhing at the holiday decorations.
Or, gather up the family, make a big, steaming bowl of popcorn, and watch one of those holiday movie classics together.
Whip up a tasty batch of cookies, holiday favorites like chocolate chip, sugar, or ginger bread. And don’t forget to eat a few of them while they’re still warm!
Stop and watch the sun slowly dip down in the sky and the stars pop out in all their celestial glory.
Play a classic board game or a game of cards with family or friends. Monopoly or Go Fish, anyone?
Take a long, relaxing bubble bath. (Remember those?)
So go ahead, spoil yourself. ‘Tis the season to do it!
